Macron’s wife helps him choose his Cabinet claims book – ‘She’s the new Marie Antoinette'

She allegedly had a hand in choosing education minister Michel Blanquer and “convinced” her husband not to receive Nicolas Hulot after he resigned as environment minister. Mrs Macron’s clout with the President has reportedly ruffled some feathers, with his inner circle of male aides getting “jealous”. The book, entitled Madame La Presidente, alleges that they get so riled up they even “dream about her dying”.

Gerard Collomb, former interior minister, referred to the First Lady as the President’s “advanced scout” as she can test the water as to what the country think of her husband.

However, she has made mistakes such as allowing the newspaper Le Monde into the Élysée Palace to view renovations worth around €600,000 (£524,000) just three days before the first “yellow vest” protests, which were sparked by high taxes and low wages.

This fuelled claims that Mrs Macron is the ‘new Marie Antoinette’, according to the authors Ava Djamashidi and Nathalie Shuck.

Marie Antoinette, the last Queen of France before the French Revolution, is alleged to have said “let them eat cake” in response to complaints about having no bread to eat.

Meanwhile, Mrs Macron is said to be a “product of France’s upper middle class”.

However, she is apparently trying to “avoid being a modern Marie Antoinette”.

The President’s wife is known to have been instrumental in getting him elected in the first place.

She has been filmed editing and coaching his campaign speeches.

A “friend” reportedly said: “He owes her everything. If he’s President, it’s thanks to her.”

The book has claimed that Mrs Macron is his “right side of the brain” and that he consults her on everything at home.

Meanwhile, his aides reportedly get angsty when the President appears to change his mind overnight.

“Aides are not used to competition from a woman.

“They get him to make a decision in the daytime, but come the evening she says I don’t agree – and the next day he changes his mind.”
