Chris Evans: Virgin Radio host reveals 'why he left the BBC' – 'Wouldn't have happened'

The 52-year-old DJ, who recently moved from the BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show to Virgin Radio’s, said the team had gone out for a boozy brunch after yesterday’s show. Chris Evans told listeners he and his assistant, the Frothy Coffee Man, AKA Hiten Vora, ended up crashing in a twin room at The Shard after the gathering, never making it home. He then proceeded to sing the praises of the heated toilet seats in the luxury Shangri-La Hotel and ended up deciding his co-star Vassos Alexander should head over to The Shard in order to try one out live on the show. As the Virgin Radio Breakfast Show progressed over the course of the morning, he counted down to the moment they would go live to Vassos in The Shard.

However, before they could, Chris received a question from a listener.

“‘Why did we leave the BBC?’” he read out, bursting out laughing.

“Well,” he continued, after a pause, quipping: “Because this would’ve taken three weeks of compliance meetings and then it wouldn’t have happened!”

Recalling how he had spent the night with the Frothy Coffee Man, the presenter told Virgin Radio listeners: “We do a lot nowadays.

“My wife’s quite worried about it I’m not so worried about it, although she’s making me more concerned about it.

“I think it’s alright, I don’t think he has an ulterior motive, the Frothy Coffee Man,” he joked.

“We’ve been together longer than my wife and I.”

The Frothy Coffee Man works as Chris’ personal assistant and often helps out with the star’s many charity events.

Chris started his job on Virgin Radio at the beginning of last week, having stepped down from the BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show after eight years at the helm.

He had worked for BBC Radio 2 for 13 years.

Zoe Ball, 48, has since become the first female host of the Breakfast Show, taking over from Chris.

On his first day, the presenter revealed she had sent him a message the night before.

“Zoe, thanks for your text message last night,” he said. “It was very sweet of you. Always loved you, always will.”

To celebrate his first show at the station, Chris’ wife Natasha Shishmanian went to the studio, bringing their infant twins Walt and Boo with her.

The family were pictured outside the studio in London, all smiles as he left after his first day on the job.

Chris Evans’ Breakfast Show airs weekdays at 6.30am on Virgin Radio.
