OnePlus 6T and OnePlus 6 update makes these budget flagships even better

OnePlus 6T and the OnePlus 6 were both released last year and share many of the same features.

While the 6T has a slightly larger display and a smaller notch, the design of both is extremely similar overall.

Moreover, the Chinese pair are powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 and have an Adreno 630 GPU.

Additionally, the two also come equipped with a 16-megapixel main camera sensor and a secondary 20-megapixel lens.

While the OnePlus 6 initially launched running Android 8.1 Oreo, it has since received an update for Android 9 Pie.

It is worth noting when it launched the OnePlus 6T came pre-installed with Google’s latest and greatest software.

OnePlus places its OxygenOS skin on top of the American tech giant’s operating system that boasts a number of unique features in its own right.

One of the biggest of these has long been a “gaming do not disturb” mode that ensures notifications do not arrive on OnePlus devices when the user is playing relevant software.

OxygenOS is consistently updated by OnePlus, meaning new features and improvements are always being added for fans.

Before the Shenzhen-based firm releases new builds of the skin to all users, it delivers beta versions to those that are part of its Open Beta programme.

The newest beta build of the skin has introduced a number of new features and improvements for OnePlus 6 and 6T owners.

One of the most notable is the introduction of OnePlus Laboratory for the OnePlus 6 that gives users greater control over notification settings.

Essentially, Laboratory allows users to set “power notification controls” that range in importance from level zero to level five.

Users are able to choose a level that suits them for each application.

Level five will always show an app’s notifications at the top of the user’s list while level zero blocks all notifications entirely.

The new beta build also brings “optimisations” for taking screenshots on both flagships.

Moreover, there is also support for quick reply when the user is in landscape mode, meaning performing such an action is now easier if the user is watching a video for instance.

A full list of changes discussed by OnePlus are the following:

System

• Added OnePlus Laboratory for OnePlus 6

• Optimisations for screenshot function

• Support for quick reply in landscape mode – now easier to reply to new messages when watching videos

• Gaming mode enhancement

Clock

• Now supports world clock with weather information

It is worth noting OnePlus has emphasised beta software is “sometimes not as stable” as final versions.

This means those that download the new software may experience more bugs overall.

While the improvements are currently only available through the firm’s Open Beta programme, it is expected they will arrive in the next final build update for owners.

However, it is currently unknown when all users will be granted the new upgrade.
