Arsenal set for cash windfall on deadline day if they REJECT transfer

Arsenal are tipped to make moves on transfer deadline day, having already signed Denis Suarez from Barcelona.

More deals could well get over the line between now and the 11pm deadline.

And Arsenal have been faced with a choice as to what to do about one of their former players.

It is being reported in Italy that ex-Gunner Ismael Bennacer is wanted at Napoli.

Bennacer left Arsenal for Empoli in 2017 in a deal that saw the Gunners retain first refusal rights.

It means if Empoli receive an offer from another club for the player, they must first ask Arsenal if they want to match that bid.

Napoli have bid £10.5m for the 21-year-old midfielder, Gianluca Di Marzio claim.

But Arsenal may not be interested in a deal.

Instead, they could accept a 30 per cent cut in the transfer, which was the sell-on clause agreed with Empoli when Bennacer first left 18 months ago.

Arsenal can therefore expect a £3.15m windfall if Napoli make their move today.

Bennacer joined Arsenal from French side Arles back in 2015 but never broke into the first team in north London.

He has played 20 games for Empoli this season, being booked five times.

Napoli lost Jorginho to Chelsea in the summer when Maurizio Sarri rocked up in west London.

And Bennacer could well be the ideal replacement for the Italian.

Arsenal have been frugal in the transfer window this month, insisting only loan deals can be struck.

They have kept hold of Aaron Ramsey despite Juventus’ interest and the fact the player’s contract expires at the end of the season.

Mesut Ozil has also remained at the club.

Suarez’s arrival is not yet confirmed but that deal should be announced well before the transfer deadline.

Clubs have until 11pm UK time to register players as they seek to bolster their sides for the second half of the season.
