NFL trade news: DeSean Jackson eyes Rams move after ruling out 49ers

The 32-year-old has made it clear about his desire to facilitate an exit from Tampa and even requested a trade away during the regular season.

New Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians wants to build his side around quarterback Jameis Winston and this is a conflict for Jackson, as he has performed better with Tampa’s back-up quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick.

Jackson finished the season with 774 yards off 41 receptions and also notched up four touchdowns. He averaged 18.9 yards per catch.

The 5’10” wideout revealed he wasn’t sure about moving to San Francisco because of the taxes and instead favours a move to the Los Angeles Rams.

“I don’t know about Frisco, man. State tax is crazy, man,” Jackson said on The Simms and Lefkoe Podcast.

“If anything, I would like to kind of end up in LA, being a Ram.

“Sean McVay, you know, we got some connection from when I was in D.C., but we’ll see how it plays out, man.

“Right now, I got another year in Tampa. So we’ll see how it plays out, man.”

Arians wants to keep Jackson at Tampa Bay, but Jackson is owed $10million (£7.76m) for next season.

If Tampa decide to move Jackson on, it’s expected they will want something in return, not just freeing up cap space.

Regarding a move to the Rams, NFL’s Nick Shook doesn’t think Los Angeles would be interested in Jackson as they already have Brandin Cooks.

Cooks recently signed an $81m contract that runs until 2023.

“They’re doing just fine without Jackson,” Shook’s wrote.

“And would be better served to use their projected $35 million elsewhere, especially while Jared Goff is on his rookie deal.”

As for ruling out the 49ers, they have been heavily linked with another wide receiver – Pittsburgh Steelers star Antonio Brown.

Former 49ers legends Jerry Rice and Terrell Owens have recently spoken about a possible move to the Bay Area for Brown.

Rice even promised to mentor the player if he comes to San Francisco.

“I don’t even know even know if we’re gonna get the opportunity to bring him here,” Rice said.

“But if we do, I’m gonna be right there to mentor this guy and be around him.”
