Denis Suarez: Which Arsenal shirt numbers are available after Barcelona announce agreement

After weeks of negotiations, Arsenal have finally got a deal over the line for Suarez.

Barcelona released a statement confirming the 25-year-old will spend the rest of the season at Arsenal after he had signed a new contract.

Barca were eager for Suarez to sign an extension to protect his value.

Suarez could now make his debut for Arsenal on Sunday, against his former club Manchester City.

At Barcelona, Suarez wore the number six shirt but that is donned by Laurent Koscielny at the Emirates.

The first number available to Suarez is the number three shirt.

That was last worn by Kieran Gibbs before he joined West Brom in August 2017.

The number 13 and 21 shirts are not in use this season but belong to David Ospina and Calum Chambers who are on loan at Napoli and Fulham respectively.

It means the first most likely shirt for Suarez is number 22.

That was last worn with great distinction by Yaya Sanogo.

Other numbers available include the number 24, 28, 30, 32, and 33.

Meanwhile, Arsenal legend David Seaman feels the club are making a mistake by signing a midfielder over defensive additions.

Seaman told talkSPORT: “We don’t need midfielders, we need defenders.

“We’ve got big injuries to quite a few of them already, we need good defenders coming in. Emery knows him [Suarez] and likes what he sees, but for me we’re crying out for defenders.

“We’re great going forward, but what’s happening with the defence? It’s just not got any better all season.

“At the moment it’s not working. It’s frustrating.”
