Coronation Street spoilers: Beloved family set for shock exit after explosive revelation?

Steve McDonald (played by Simon Greyson) and Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford) could flee Coronation Street with their daughter Amy (Elle Mulvaney).

The parents discussed the possibility of moving away with the pregnant teen in last night’s instalment of the ITV soap.

Amy is expecting gang leader Tyler Jefferies’s (Will Barnett) child, however Steve and Tracy decided they would adopt her baby earlier in the week.

Also, the couple lied to Tyler’s mother Vicky (Kerr Quinn) and told her the schoolgirl had had an abortion.

But the shock lie left them in a bit of a pickle, with the pair wondering what they could do next to protect both Amy and her unborn child.

At home they discussed their options and Tracy suggested Amy should refrain from using social media during her pregnancy.

She then added: “We could move away,” to which an astonished Steve asked: “So, Amy gives up social media, we move away and bring up a child?”

The florist insisted they could move to Kent, but Steve rightly pointed out they both run businesses in Weatherfield.

Continuing, he remarked: “Two weeks ago, everything was right with the world. Now Amy’s pregnant and we’re moving to Kent.

“Kent isn’t the problem. This is madness. Why did she have to get flipping pregnant?”

Questioning their relationship, the businesswoman replied: “We were too busy squabbling, always have been. All we ever think about is ourselves.”

She went on to add: “Maybe we shouldn’t have got back together. Maybe this thing is a huge mistake.”

Later, their daughter bumped into Vicky on the street and revealed she had not had an abortion, despite her parents saying otherwise.

Naturally, Vicky was gobsmacked to hear the truth – could Steve and Tracy’s abortion lie land them in deep trouble?

Coronation Street boss Iain MacLeod, who previously worked on rival soap Emmerdale, teased twists and turns in the teenage pregnancy plot.

“The story becomes more than being just about a teenage pregnancy,” he told Express.co.uk and other media outlets.

“It becomes about family and Steve and Tracy’s relationship – it forces them to instantly grow up and be parents for the first time in history.”

He continued: “It’s really good – it gives a leading role to Elle Mulvaney, who deserves the chance to step up and do something a bit more grown up. I’m very much looking forward to that.”

Yet Iain insisted there would be elements of humour to the story and compared Amy’s dad Steve McDonald (Simon Greyson) to Peter Griffin in Family Guy.

“It’s also really funny. Steve and Tracy dealing with a teenage pregnancy is not like a normal couple dealing with a teen pregnancy,” he added.

“It’s very funny, classic Steve with that Corrie heart. It’s heartbreaking but ridiculous at the same time.”

Coronation Street continues Friday at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
