Anthony Davis: Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum drops trade admission

The youngster is reported to be one of the trade pieces in a potential summer move.

NBA teams were put on red alert on Monday as the New Orleans Pelicans star requested a trade.

And the Celtics are hell-bent on acquiring him.

However, they are unable to make a trade move for Davis until the summer, due to the designated player rule.

This originally gave the upper hand to the Los Angeles Lakers, but it now appears that the Pelicans will hold on to Davis until the summer.

Tatum, the third overall pick in the 2017 NBA draft, is expected to be the most valuable asset Boston can use to lure the Pelicans into a trade.

And the 20-year-old star opened up about the prospects of being involved in such a high-profile trade.

“I mean, it’s good to be wanted, I guess you can say that,” he admitted.

“I’m not a free agent, I have no control.

“So I control what I can control and go out there and play.

“My job is to control what I can control.

“I mean, I can’t control what happens, so you’ve got to go out there and focus on today, just play the game (and) see what happens.”

Tatum could be staying put, however, as Davis is reported to be telling teams that he wants to join the Lakers.

While he has no say in the matter, Davis will be a free agent in the summer of 2020, no matter where he is traded.

And he will reportedly tell teams that he will not sign a new deal in order to force through a move to the Lakers.

This would then lead teams to offer less for Davis, under the assumption that he would only be there for a year at most.
