Liverpool fans are all saying the SAME thing after Newcastle beat Man City

Benitez’s Newcastle side defeated Manchester City 2-1 to strengthen Liverpool’s lead at the top.

Sergio Aguero scored after just over a minute at St James’ Park, as City appeared set for a walkover win.

However, goals from Salomon Rondon and Matt Ritchie turned the tide in Newcastle’s favour.

Benitez, who spent six years managing the Reds from 2004 to 2010, is still viewed as a club legend after delivering the Champions League in 2005.

And after Tuesday night’s heroics, Liverpool fans took to Twitter to praise the Spaniard for stopping City’s title challenge in its’ tracks.

One wrote: “Give Rafa Benitez a Premier League winners medal if we win the league @LFC”

Another posted: “If Liverpool win the league Rafa Benitez better get his medal, absolute legend & scouser”

“Big Rafa Benitez pulling a slick one for the Reds there” another wrote.

One added “Once a red always a red Mr Rafa Benitez”.

Another fan called for Benitez to be immortalised at Anfield if Liverpool are successful this season.

“Rafa Benitez is a f****** legend, the man deserves a statue outside Anfield,” they wrote.

The closest Liverpool have come to winning the Premier League was in 2013/14, when the title race went down to the last day.

The Reds lost out to Manchester City on the final day after dropping points against Crystal Palace in the penultimate game of the season.

This season, they are in a much better position than they ever were in that year.

And City boss Pep Guardiola admitted that the title race could soon be over.

“It is difficult, we have a chance to do it but we need to win our games,” he said.

“The advantage is not there but we need to continue. We have to do our games and know what we have to do.”
