Anthony Davis: Paul Pierce makes LeBron James and Golden State Warriors claim – EXCLUSIVE

Davis handed in a trade request at New Orleans Pelicans yesterday ahead of the deadline on February 7.

The centre is said to want a move to Los Angeles, where he already owns an apartment.

The Lakers are the frontrunners to sign Davis with Magic Johnson working tirelessly behind the scenes to put together a suitable package.

And if Davis moves to the Staples Center it could boost the Lakers’ chances of breaking Golden State Warriors’ dominance, according to 10-time All-Star Pierce.

That is because pairing the 25-year-old up with LeBron James would make Luke Walton’s side incredibly powerful.

“If they get him it would be very intriguing him teaming up with LeBron,” Pierce exclusively told Express Sport.

“It would put them closer to Golden State.

“I don’t know if that is enough because Golden State have been together and won titles together.

“But it would get the Lakers one step closer if they got a player like him.”

Boston Celtics are also interested in acquiring Davis but they cannot trade for him until the summer because of the “Rose Rule”.

And Pierce would like to see his former side try to beat the Lakers to the Pelicans star’s signature.

“That would be a great move,” Pierce added.

“A lot of optimism surrounds teams like Boston and Los Angeles Lakers with Anthony Davis.

“Who knows where he is going to end up, if he ends up anywhere.

“But both of them teams could use a player like him if they want to get over the hump and make it to the Championship.

“To win a Championship, he could be the X-factor.

“If something like that happens that happens they have got a good shot.”
