Anthony Davis: Lakers should SNUB Pelicans star and make move for THIS player instead

That is the view of Fox Sports pundit Colin Cowherd.

Davis requested a trade this week, and it has been speculated that his preferred destination is the Lakers.

While he will ultimately have no say in where he ends up, he can tell teams that he will not re-sign anywhere but Los Angeles, which would put off any potential trade bids.

He is a free agent next summer, and is eligible for a $240million supermax contract this summer.

The Pelicans are unlikely to trade him before the trade deadline of February 7, but it has been reported that any deal would involve the Lakers giving up at least three young stars, as well as draft picks.

And Cowherd questioned whether or not it would be worthwhile for the Lakers to do so, given the theory that James does not work well with players like Davis, who score the majority of points nearer the basket.

“He’s not Kevin Durant as a shooter, and I’ve given up everything, what does that get me?” he asked.

“It’ll be fun, I’m not saying it’s not interesting and really really good.

“But they’re not beating Golden State. Let’s be real about this.

“I’ve seen what LeBron James does to big men.

“I saw what he did to Antawn Jamison, I saw what he did to Kevin Love, and I saw what he did to Chris Bosh. He frustrated them.

“It’s not like LeBron has a history of being great with bigs, no, he’s great with shooters.”

If the Lakers are unable to get Davis, they will likely turn their attention to the free agency market in the summer.

One of the biggest names expected to become a free agent is Golden State Warriors star Klay Thompson, and Cowherd hinted that would be a much better acquisition for the Lakers.

“LeBron has always been good with shooters, I said it before he would be great with Klay Thompson, he would be great with Bradley Beal,” he added.

“The Lakers have worked hard to draft and develop this young core of players. They’re not great, but they’re not terrible, they’re talented young players.

“Lonzo Ball has got talent, I’m going to fight to keep him. If I have to give him away to get AD, then I would.

“I would fight to keep Kyle Kuzma, I would fight to keep Josh Hart.”
