Glenn Close: SAG Awards fans fume at screaming interruption amid Fatal Attraction reunion

Glenn Close was awarded the gong for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role for The Wife at the 25th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards. The film star stood out in an all-white look before taking to the stage to pick up her statuette for playing Joan in the Björn Runge-directed drama. But, the 71-year-old reportedly nearly had her big moment ruined as someone screamed loudly in the audience before her name was read out. Those watching at home certainly weren’t happy about the incident and took to Twitter to complain.

“Did someone really just scream like a buffoon at the SAG awards… I need a name and I need it NOW,” one user posted.

Two others agreed: “Why would you scream like that?” and: “WHO IS YELLING AND WHAT IS HE YELLING LMAO #SAGAwards.”

During the star-studded event, Glenn was reunited with her Fatal Attraction co-star Michael Douglas more than three decades after they first appeared together.

She portrayed book editor named Alex, who has a casual fling with the 74-year-old’s character, Dan Gallagher, with disastrous consequences.

In an introduction, the A-lister had stated: “32 years since Fatal Attraction and 25 since these awards began.

“We experienced many changes in our craft and in our industry and how we relate to each other and our world.”

The micro-blogging site was filled with comments about Glenn and Michael, with one tweet stating: “I AM HERE FOR THIS FATAL ATTRACTION REUNION #SAGAwards.”

Other uploads stated: “Remake Fatal Attraction with current day Glenn Close and Michael Douglas. #SAGAwards,” and: “Loving the Fatal Attraction reunion. #SAGAwards.”

Meanwhile, Glenn paid an emotional tribute to her grandmother after picking up her prize.

She said the film was made before the #MeToo movement rose to prominence but its theme of a woman being unable to achieve her full potential proved to be prescient.

Speaking backstage, she said: “When we made this film, the #MeToo movement didn’t even exist. And to have it come out, to talk about the women, like my mom, who – feminism was not in their sensibility.

“I’m wearing my grandmother’s wedding ring because I found out after she died that the one thing she wanted to be was an actress.

“And she never would’ve been allowed to do that, she was not allowed to do it. And so I feel like I’m fulfilling her dream.”

Glenn said it was “gob-smacking” to see the audience’s reaction when The Wife premiered at the Toronto Film Festival, and that “every single nuance” of the on-screen performances was registered.

She said: “I’m still kind of astounded by it. I chose it very subjectively, I’ve never played a character like this before.”

Her nomination for The Wife is her seventh, though she has never won.
