Coronation Street spoilers: Roy Cropper set for heartbreak as blast from the past returns

Coronation Street fans should prepare themselves for a big twist in the coming months.

It seems Roy Cropper (played by David Neilson) will be in line for more heartbreak.

The beloved character recently lost his mum, Sylvia Goodwin (Stephanie Cole) in an off-screen death.

But as one face departs, another will return – and this time it’s a dangerous one.

It has been revealed Roy’s foster son Wayne Hayes will make a surprising comeback.

Roy and former lover, Hayley Cropper (Julie Hesmondhalgh), fostered the youngster when he was a kid but the former hasn’t seen him since he was 10.

That’s all set to change as The Mirror have reported little Wayne will be coming back – and he’s not so little any more.

Wayne is now all grown up and will return to Coronation Street as a health and safety inspector.

He will come to blows with Carla Connor (Alison King) when he arrives following the factory collapse.

It had previously been teased the health and safety inspector would be a big mystery for Corrie fans.

But it seems if Wayne really is the illusive figure, Roy and Carla will be left devastated.

A source told the publication: “Little Wayne had a really tough time before, but now he’s all grown up and has a decent job.

“It’ll be interesting to see how he and Roy get along…”

This comes alongside the news Carla will be at the centre of a Coronation Street special.

She will be exploring her mental health battle following on from the factory collapse.

It is believed the episode special will be akin to the Emmerdale episode which saw Ashley Thomas (John Middleton) dementia explored.

An insider previously told The Sun: “The factory collapse will impact massively on Carla’s mental health. We’re doing something stylised on this.

“We will do a standalone episode that focuses on Carla and her mental health. It’s going to be a serious piece of drama.

“Everyone will lose their jobs for the time being and Carla feels she’s being blamed… She spirals into a battle with her mental health.”

Coronation Street continues tonight on ITV at 7.30pm and 8.30pm.
