Chelsea transfer news: Gonzalo Higuain slammed by deputy Italian PM after Blues move

Higuain has moved to Stamford Bridge on loan for the rest of the season with a permanent deal expected to be completed in the summer.

The Argentine is on loan from Juventus having spent the first half of the season with AC Milan.

He had scored six goals in 15 Serie A appearances for the Rossoneri this season, helping them push for the top four.

But Higuain has now moved to Chelsea to team-up with Maurizio Sarri again having previously worked with the Italian at Napoli.

But Matteo Salvini has criticised Higuain, and the deputy PM certainly isn’t happy with the striker.

“I hope Higuain doesn’t show his face in Milan again,” Salvini said to Corriere della Sera.

“He behaved disgracefully and I don’t like mercenaries, but we’ve become very competitive without him.”

Higuain made his Chelsea debut during the 3-0 FA Cup victory over Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday.

He struggled to make an impact in the game, however, and seemingly turned down the opportunity to take the penalty which Willian converted to open the scoring.

Higuain was taken off in the 82nd minute with Frenchman Olivier Giroud replacing him.

And Chelsea assistant Gianfranco Zola admitted it hadn’t been an ideal first day for Higuain.

“We are pleased with Gonzalo Higuain’s performance,” he said.

“He was trying to find the space and get on the ball.

“It wasn’t easy as they had a lot of players round him.”

Zola did say upon the Higuain’s arrival he believes the coveted marksman can be a success and deal with the pressure.

“Everybody knows his best qualities, the goalscoring record,” Zola said.

“He’s a player who can score in many ways, so we hope that he can bring his qualities to this team and, at this moment, it’s very much necessary.

“I’m sure there are big expectations. I’m also sure Gonzalo is used to it. He’s played for big clubs – Real Madrid, Juventus, Napoli.

“I’m sure he can handle these expectations. He’s always produced good numbers wherever he’s been.”
