BREAKING: Five police officers shot in Houston mass shooting – Suspect DEAD

The incident took place on Monday afternoon at 7800 Harding, in the southeast of the city.

One suspect is dead, whilst police SWAT team continue to search the area.

On Twitter, the police commented: “Houston Police Department responding to a scene at 7800 Harding where officers have been struck with gunfire following an encounter with a suspect.

“Officers are en route to the hospital.

“Please avoid the area and yield for emergency vehicles.”

According to ABC News two officers are in a critical condition whilst three are listed as stable.

The network reports all five have been taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital for treatment.

Police were reportedly attempting to serve a drug warrant at a property when they came under fire.

One of the injured officers was airlifted from the scene.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott said: “This evening’s horrific attack on police officers is a solemn reminder of the service and sacrifice our brave men and women in law enforcement make every day to keep us safe.

“The city of Houston and the Houston Police Department will have whatever state resources they need to bring swift justice to those involved.”

According to local media reports, Harris County Sheriff deputies and ATF agents are at the scene.

Several streets are blocked off, and police are seeking to remove bystanders from the scene.

A perimeter has been established to hunt for any additional suspects.

Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo tweeted: “We have several officers that have been struck by gunfire, the situation at the shooting scene is still fluid.

“Please pray for our officers and their families.”
