SEO Competitions Explained

Over the last 3 years there have been varying SEO competitions on the

internet.

Specifically the competitions work like this.

The organiser of the event will produce a unique term not found in the search

engines, and supply a start and closing time and date. Generally the organiser will offer a prize or prizes in the form of cash to the winning entrant.

It works like this.

People create new websites or webpages specifically optimised for the term

chosen for this contest.

In most contests, the domain names containing the competition words are

grabbed up fast.

Generally over night you will start to see these competition entry pages

indexed in the search engines.

Google.com is the search engine of choice for these competitions.

So its very simple to see who is winning, by simply entering the competition

term into google.com.

Each competition entry will have a registered identifier so competitors know

who is winning etc.

The growth of these competitions is amazing, by the end of the first

competition I entered, there was over 500,000 pages listed in Google for the

competition term “nigritude ultramarine”.

Generally these competitions are covered in different Internet Marketing forums, and in some

cases, the forum will submit an entry itself and the members of the forum work as a group to get their

entry page/s ranking no 1.

In this competition, my entry was listed No 17 at the end of the competition,

since this was my first time and I was alone, e.g not part of a group from a forum.

I was very happy with this result.

Though the most important aspect of being a part of this competition was the

amount of information I learned about google.com specifically.

By following the competition in different forums I learned a massive amount.

If you have the opportunity to enter any SEO competition, i strongly

encourage you to enter it, i can guarantee you will learn a lot regardless

of your current SEO skills. from newbies to internet professionals.

In the last 3 years I have seen 5 major SEO competitions, the last being the

SEO Compeittion using the term “ambactchdotcom seocontest”, which resulted in over 2 million pages listed in google.com for this competition term.

Generally SEO competitions have a duration of 3 months.

I may be now considered a internet Nerd, as my whole days feelings were in

direct relation to how well or poorly my competition entry sites were listed

for this day! It seems very strange to have such strong feelings about an

SEO Competition, though I can assure you this was a very common

experience for the top competitors.

Now as the internet evolves and video on the internet is becoming much more

prominent. A lot of webmasters are not aware that you can submit videos to places like

video.google.com and use specific SEO techniques to make the video you upload

rank highly for the term you specify and thus expose your video to a large audience,

subsequently driving very targeted pre qualified traffic to your website.

In my opinion, as the internet gets faster for the average surfer, and hard

drive prices come down for hosting companies and traffic becomes less expensive,

video on the internet is going to the predominant form of advertising and marketing in general.

Video on the internet is the way of the future, there is no doubt in this.

Which of course leads to the need for a specific Video Seo Competition, so

webmasters as a group can learn the how-tos and why-fors about Video SEO
