In The Boy Who Harnessed The Wind, Netflix has tapped first time director and heartthrob Chiwetel Ejiofor to direct.

The Boy Who Harnessed The Wind is available to stream on Netflix from March 1, 2019.

Based on the book of the same name, the movie will also have a limited cinematic run in the from February 22, 2019.

The movie is currently screening for its global debut at the Sundance Film Festival.

Netflix’s movie synopsis reads: “Adapted from the bestselling book by William Kamkwamba and Bryan Mealer, The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind follows 13-year-old William Kamkwamba (newcomer Maxwell Simba) who is thrown out of the school he loves when his family can no longer afford the fees.

“Sneaking back into the school library, he finds a way, using the bones of the bicycle belonging to his father Trywell (Chiwetel Ejiofor), to build a windmill which then saves his Malawian village from famine.

Other cast members include Aïssa Maïga, Lily Banda, Lemogang Tsipa, Philbert Falakeza, with Joseph Marcell and Noma Dumezweni.

Of the book, Publisher’s Weekly wrote: “This exquisite tale strips life down to its barest essentials, and once there finds a reason for hopes and dreams.

“It is especially resonant for Americans given the economy and increasingly heated debates over health care and energy policy.”

The British Academy Film and Television Awards (BAFTA) are hosting a Chiwetel Ejiofor career retrospective.

The actor himself is scheduled to discuss his career at the BAFTA: A Life in Pictures event on Saturday 23 February.

Ejiofor is no stranger to the BAFTAs, having won the BAFTA for Leading Actor in 2014 for his role in 12 Years a Slave as Solomon Northup.

For this role, he was also nominated for the Oscar for Best Actor, and the film won that year’s Best Picture award.

Previously he had received a BAFTA nomination in 2006 for the Rising Star Award.

In the upcoming adaptation of Disney’s The Lion King, Ejiofor lends his voice to Scar.

He is also set to appear in Maleficent 2, the sequel to the 2014 film Maleficent.

But many were introduced to Ejiofor as the lucky man to wed Kiera Knightly in the classic rom-com Love Actually.
