Princess Diaries 3: Anne Hathaway has huge sequel news – WHEN is it out? WATCH

It’s been 18 years since Amelia Mignonette Thermopolis Renaldi discovered she was heir to a remote (imaginary) European Kingdom in the first Princess Diaries movie. Four years later she married Chris Pine’s Nicholas and was crowned Queen of Genovia. Did they live happily ever after? Meg Cabot’s books source continued on but a third film has been a very long time coming. Until now. Hathaway just revealed exciting news about a third film.

The stars of the first two films have never hidden their dreams of making another.

In 2017, Julie Andrews told Buzzfeed: “There’s talk about it (Princess Diaries 3). [Anne Hathaway] is very keen to do it. I would very willingly and happily do it. Annie had an idea that she wanted to pursue about it, and I’m all for it, so if she’d like to…”

Andrews’ on-screen boyfriend Hector Elizondo also confirming hopes for a sequel back in 2016: “I’m ready! It’s time to go back to Genovia! I know Anne would like to do it. I know Julie would like to do it. I would like to do it. So we’re on board, it’s a question of when and a question of getting a good story.”

Now Hathaway herself has confirmed a script is finished and more. Watch her give the big news below.

After a question from a fan on air, Hathaway told chat show host Andy Cohen: “There is a script for the third movie…

“I want to do it. Julie [Andrews] wants to do it. Debra Martin Chase, our producer, wants to do it. We all really want it to happen.

“It’s just we don’t want to unless it’s perfect because we love it just as much as you guys love it. It’s as important to us as it is to you, and we don’t want to deliver anything until it’s ready, but we’re working on it.”

Hathaway was still a young woman when she made the second movie and her age matched the character on screen. Now she is 36, will the new film also jump a decade forward?

There have been eleven books in the series by Meg Cabot but the sequel was not based on storylines from any of them. It is most likely Hathaway’s new script will also develop an original storyline.

Cabot remains involved and had this to say about the next film: “I would love to sit and talk about [it], but I can’t. I’m not allowed but it’s really more following the movie than the books…”
