OnePlus 6T could have a big problem with one of its most important features

OnePlus 6T is the successor to the OnePlus 6 and built upon the Shenzhen-based OEM’s philosophy of delivering capable devices at an affordable price.

The 6T comes with a 6.41-inch display that has minimal bezels and a teardrop-shaped notch at the top.

Moreover, the screen also houses the phone’s optical fingerprint scanner that allows for a new and futuristic method of accessibility.

The OnePlus 6T is powered by the same Snapdragon 845 processor as its predecessor and comes with up to 10GB of RAM if owners opt for the McLaren Edition variant of the product.

While the 6T did not arrive with a headphone jack, a first for a OnePlus device, it did boast a larger battery than its predecessor.

The OnePlus 6T comes with a 3,700mAh pack while the OnePlus 6 had a 3,300mAh capacity.

While the 6T’s battery was claimed to be improved over its predecessor, some owners have reported the handset has started to suffer from abnormal battery drain speeds.

Some 6T fans have taken to Reddit to discuss the issue that appears to have emerged in the last few days.

Explaining the problem, one 6T owner said: “So for the past day or so my 6T’s battery has suddenly started draining from 80 percent extremely fast.

“If I had to guess I’d say my battery life was at least halved all of a sudden and I’m not even putting it through heavy workloads or anything.

“I’ve put background restrictions on the biggest culprits and that hasn’t done anything.

“I updated the software to the latest version available to the T-Mobile version and that didn’t do anything at all either.”

The owner posted an image of his battery usage statistics from the phone that showed, from a 60 percent charge, the handset would only be able to deliver 3 hours of power.

In response, many other 6T fans stated they were experiencing similar issues.

One wrote: “I am having this same issue just in the past week.

“Before that I have experienced similar issues but have generally enjoyed over 6-7 hours of screen time however I am now maxing out around 4 hours.”

Another said: “I honestly thought I was going crazy, but this has been going on the last three days for me.”

One user insisted they had been plagued by a the problem, but that a factory reset for the device appeared to be a remedy.

They stated: “I had my 6T about a week before this started happening, it looked like it had something to do with Google Play Services, and the not only was the battery draining extremely quickly, but the phone was heating up a lot as well.

“I decided to do a factory reset – as annoying as it was i had only just ported things to it anyway as it was only a week old – that did the trick, been fine for last few months now.”

It is worth noting it appears not all OnePlus 6T owners are experiencing the issue.

When we reviewed the device at Express.co.uk, we did not have such problems with the battery.

This publication has asked OnePlus if it is aware of the issue and if a remedy is in the works for affected users.
