Matthew Wright, 53, and wife Amelia welcome baby girl after eight year IVF struggle

Matthew Wright’s spouse was admitted to hospital yesterday and gave birth last night to a baby girl.

The new arrival weighed five and a half pounds and the pair have named their daughter Cassady Frances Wright, according to Hello! magazine.

After her birth, the happy couple revealed “mother and baby are doing very well”.

Earlier in the day, Matthew, 53, revealed to his followers he was expecting his daughter to arrive.

He shared a message from his wife on Twitter to his 55,800 fans and wrote: “Just received the following: ‘Ok we are having a baby this evening or basically as soon as you get here.

“‘You will be taken to the labour ward and given blue pyjamas to wear. Xx’ @mrsameliawright.”

Matthew appeared thrilled as he added: “THIS IS HAPPENING!!”

While Amelia posted beforehand: “So it looks like it’s 60/40 in favour of baby making an appearance today versus tomorrow.

“I think @Matthew_Wright is worried about this ruining Gin Down Friday!! I think he’ll need it even more if she arrives today!”

In September, the former The Wright Stuff presenter announced his spouse, who he wed in 2010, was pregnant.

He shared the news with his listeners on talkRADIO where he explained they had undergone eight years of IVF treatment.

“She has had a very very difficult time of it,” Matthew spilled.

“Some of you will know, that we’ve been trying through IVF after she had an ectopic [pregnancy] and it tore her up inside. It was all very awful.”

In his candid chat, the TV personality told listeners: “We’ve been trying on IVF for eight years, and she gets pregnant each time, but then miscarries at 11 or 12 weeks.

“Which is a very difficult and uncomfortable thing. We had some frozen embryos, and she’d gone through two out of three of those.”

The star admitted the pair considered to stop trying for a baby due to his age and the years of difficulties they had already faced.

“You know, I’m 53, coming up 54, she’s 42,” he said. “And, we were just thinking it’s not going to happen – it’s too late.

“But anyway, that’s what I’m going to be doing now, and I’m delighted and thrilled.”

The Matthew Wright Show airs weekdays on talkRADIO from 1pm.
