World War 3: Watch moment China launch ‘Guam KILLER’ missile – US on alert

China’s Rocket Force conducted a live-fire exercise featuring the launch of the powerful DF-26. The anti-ship ballistic missile was mobilised in Northwest China’s plateau and desert areas earlier this month according to local Chinese state media. The missile has been dubbed the “Guam killer” or “aircraft carrier killer” by Chinese media, with its potential capabilities of striking targets including US naval bases in Guam in the western Pacific.

The ballistic missile deployed by China is believed to have the capability to hit targets 4,500km away and can carry both conventional and nuclear warheads.

In the video, posted by Global Times, showcases the powerful rocket launched into the sky.

The weapon is one of China’s new generation of intermediate-range ballistic missiles and is capable of targeting medium and large ships at sea.

The missiles were first paraded in 2015, and earlier this month was the first time footage has been released outside of a parade.

In April 2018, Ministry of National Defense announced that the missile has officially joined the PLA Rocket Force.

Last week a US Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) report warned of China’s rapidly modernising military posing a threat to security in Asia.

The 140-page report is titled “China Military Power: Modernising a Force to Fight and Win.”

The dispute surrounding the sovereignty of Taiwan has led to heightened tensions between Beijing and Taipei, which the DIA noted in its new report.

DIA Director Robert Ashley said: “Beijing’s longstanding interest to eventually compel Taiwan’s reunification with the mainland and deter any attempt by Taiwan to declare independence has served as the primary driver for China’s military modernisation.”

A recent study published by Henry Jackson Society warned “expanding” China poses a “serious threat” to the west.

Chief analyst James Rogers said: “China’s rapidly expanding geopolitical capacity poses a serious challenge to the West. Over the past year, China has added tens of thousands of tonnes to its Navy and if current trends continue – it will overtake Britain as a global power by as soon as next year.”
