Vice movie end credits scene: Does meta finale SPOIL Christian Bale’s Dick Cheney movie?

Vice is up for eight Oscars next month and Bale is in a two horse race for Best Actor against Rami Malek’s Freddie Mercury. The quirky look at former Vice President Dick Cheney’s life broke the fourth wall a number of times with some surreal moments, but was the mid-credits scene a bit too much? After the film ends with Bale’s Cheney defending his track record following a scathing, but comical, examination of his political career there’s an extra scene and boy does it go meta. We’re back in the focus group that featured earlier in the film considering the Iraq War.

However, this time conservative and liberal members of the group are arguing about the movie we’ve just watched, Vice.

But then the camera pans to one member of the group who appears pretty disinterested.

She says: “I can’t wait to see the new Fast & Furious movie. It’s going to be so lit.”

Perhaps Adam McKay’s next movie will have a scene where moviegoers argue over whether this meta scene in Vice was clever and made a point, or just spoilt a decent movie?

No doubt the BAFTAs will give a better indication of which star will win the Best Actor Oscar though.

It’s certainly not surprising that the pair are neck-and-neck for the prize having both played historical figures.

The Academy has a trend of favouring actors who play real people, with Gary Oldman winning for Winston Churchill last year.

The 91st Academy Awards take place on February 24 in Hollywood.
