Stacey Dooley: ‘It’s tiresome’ Strictly Come Dancing winner opens up on backlash

Earlier this month, Stacey Dooley, 31, announced on Instagram to her 630,000 followers she will be hosting Glow Up: Britain’s Next Make-Up Star on BBC Three later this year.

The new make-up competition will be judged by Global Make-Up Director for L’Oreal Paris, Val Garland, and Global Senior Artist for MAC, Dominic Skinner.

After revealing the exciting news, Stacey said on Twitter she had received criticism for taking on the role with some calling it “trivial work”.

Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk at the Strictly Come Dancing Live! tour launch, Stacey said the backlash has been “tiresome”.

“There are people who are quick to pass judgement on you. It’s tiresome.”

Praising her new co-stars, Stacey continued: “These make up artists are incredibly talented. I’ve never been into snobbery.”

“You have to celebrate people’s traits and skill sets so yeah I’m really proud.”

Stacey, who is known for her hard-hitting documentaries, admitted the online trolls don’t get to her.

“It doesn’t bother me like with my job I’m able to keep things into perspective, it’s not going to change my life,” she said.

It comes after Stacey tweeted earlier this month: “For those tellin me you’re suddenly doing ‘trivial’ work… I’ve been filming stories covering rape, incest, drugs, murder and war for a decade.

“It’s a privilege to cover these issues, but I also need to take time out to enjoy the lighter side of life.”

Meanwhile, Stacey is currently on the Strictly Come Dancing Live! tour with Aljaz Škorjanec, who has replaced her former professional partner, Kevin Clifton, who is away on the Rock of Ages tour.

The journalist revealed it’s very different dancing with the Slovenian with their height difference getting in their way.

When asked how dancing with Aljaz compares to Kevin, Stacey spilled: “It’s only the height. They’re very similar in terms of their character.”

She added: “They’re both so similar.”

Speaking about the height difference, Stacey explained: “Actually I was practicing with my trainers on at first and that was silly of me.

“Aljaz then said to put my heels on and it was much different. It was good after that.”

Stacey admitted she “misses” her professional partner Kevin and said she’s hoping to see him during one of his shows on the Rock of Ages tour.

“Kevin is one of my best best friends, we spent so much time together,” she said.

Strictly Come Dancing Live! tour ends at the London 02 Arena in February.
