Nancy Pelosi is ‘MASTER negotiator’ claims Democrat after Trump CAVES over border wall row

Democratic party Congressman Gregory Meeks made the comment during Friday’s broadcast of MSNBC’s “Hardball”. He said: “Nancy Pelosi is the master negotiator.” She said all along that we needed to get back to the table only when the American people get back to work.

“That’s what’s happened, from the beginning.

“So, we could have avoided all of this if he had just listened to Nancy Pelosi in the beginning.

“Clearly they don’t know how to run a government and they could see that they had lost the American people because of the Trump shutdown in the very beginning.”

The Representative for New York’s 5th district went on to describe what the Democratic party wants from the proposed border security.

He said: “Now as Nancy has said Democrats wanted border security all along but we wanted sensible and reasonable border security.

“I think that the format that they’re putting together and the way in which it’s working as a conference committee with six Democrats, six Republicans and both house and senate sitting down with the experts is how we should do it.

“We can talk about how we should be really securing the borders, hiring judges and law enforcement and make sure we have drones and electronics that are up to date.

“That’s what we do. That’s what Nancy Pelosi was talking about from day one.”

When asked by whether he thought Trump would buy a “smart solution” with border enforcement or whether he just wants the symbolic brick wall, Mr Meeks stated what he thought Trump’s true intentions were.

He said: “I think that he is now backed into the corner. When you’re a conman, sometimes the con is up.

“He started conning the American people in the beginning when he said he was going to build a brick wall and Mexico was going to pay for it.

“The con is up. You can’t do that.”

The reason for the government shutdown was Trump’s failure to get $5.7billion (£3.8billion) to fund the building of a wall along the US-Mexican border.

However, recent reports suggest that the shutdown itself has cost an estimated $6billion (£4.5billion), according to S&P Global ratings estimates.

The shutdown has seen 800,000 government workers go without pay and disruptions to flights.

Workers are now set to receive pay but no deal has yet been reached to allow construction of the wall to begin.
