Alita: Battle Angel release date, plot, cast, more – All you need to know

Alita: Battle Angel is an American cyberpunk action movie based on the manga, or comic book, by Yukito Kishiro. The film adaptation has been produced by James Cameron and Jon Landau and was directed by Robert Rodriguez from a screenplay by Cameron and Laeta Kalogridis. After over a decade of development purgatory, Alita: Battle Angel began production in 2016.

In the UK, Alita: Battle Angel is out in cinemas on February 6, 2019.

Fans waiting for the adaptation in America have to wait a little longer, with a romantic release date of February 14, 2019.

The movie was originally scheduled for release on July 20, 2018, but was delayed to December 21/

Alita was pushed back again to its current release date, though it will be released in China on February 22, 2019, after the Chinese New Year.

What is the plot of Alita: Battle Angel?

The synopsis reads: “Set several centuries in the future, the abandoned Alita is found in the scrapyard of Iron City by Ido, a compassionate cyber-doctor who takes the unconscious cyborg Alita to his clinic.

“When Alita awakens, she has no memory of who she is, nor does she have any recognition of the world she finds herself in.

“As Alita learns to navigate her new life and the treacherous streets of Iron City, Ido tries to shield her from her mysterious past.”

Speaking to Collider, James Cameron said he intended to adapt: “the spine story” of Kishiro’s original work, focussing on the first four books.

Who is in the cast of Alita: Battle Angel?

Rosa Salazar stars as Alita, the titular cyborg heroine, who Salazar portrays using motion capture.

Christoph Waltz plays Dr Dyson Ido, the scientist who is Alita’s caretaker.

Jennifer Connelly plays Dr Chiren, Ido’s ex-girlfriend who escaped with Ido from a false utopia but became disenchanted with freedom.

Mahershala Ali plays Vector, a man who rigs Motorball combat matches.

Ed Skrein plays Zapan, a cyborg tasked with tracking down and killing Alita.

Jackie Earle Haley plays Grewishka, a huge cyborg based on Grewcica from the Battle Angel OVA.

Keean Johnson plays Hugo, Alita’s love interest who also teaches her to play a gladiator-style game called Motorball.

Michelle Rodriguez plays Gelda, a cyborg warrior from Mars who trained Alita.

Eiza González plays Nyssiana, a cyborg tasked with tracking down and killing Alita.

Lana Condor plays Koyomi, an orphaned teen and freelance photographer.

Other cast members include Jorge Lendeborg Jr. as Hugo’s friend, Idara Victor as Nurse Gerhad, Ido’s aide, Leonard Wu as Kinuba, Marko Zaror as Ajakutty, a Motorball player, and Casper Van Dien as Amok.
