LeBron James injury: Latest update on Lakers ace ahead of Timberwolves game, will he play?

The Los Angeles Lakers star is out of action with a groin problem suffered on Christmas Day against the Golden State Warriors.

LeBron James took part in drills on Wednesday but has yet to feature in a full contact training session.

Rajon Rondo could return for the Lakers but a late decision will need to be made.

The point guard had torn a ligament in a finger which has kept him sidelined in recent weeks.

The match against the Timberwolves will be the 15th game LeBron has missed.

And the Lakers have slipped down to ninth in the Western Conference table as a result.

Lakers coach Luke Walton believes LeBron could return against Phoenix Suns on Sunday.

“He’s not out yet for Sunday,” he said of James.

“I guess that puts it in play.

“With him and Rondo, it’s going to be, again, how he’s feeling tomorrow morning and take it from there and see how he’s doing the next day after that and the next day.

“When they feel ready to play, then they’ll play.”

The Lakers have gone 5-9 since losing LeBron and will be desperate for him to return.

Rondo is confident the side will make the playoffs though.

“Well, we’ve got LeBron, so … I don’t know the last time he missed the playoffs,” he said.

The Lakers against the Timberwolves takes place at 3.30am UK time on Friday (7.30pm PST in the US).
