Gemma Atkinson, 34, who starred in the Channel 4 show Hollyoaks, as Lisa Hunter from 2001 until 2006 has opened up about the body insecurities she faced while on the show. In an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk revealed she was “got wound up” whilst modelling for the official Hollyoaks Babes calendar. Gemma told the Express.co.uk: “I had to shoot a calendar with the girls from Hollyoaks. “I wasn’t in the same shape they were in. They were a few years older than me and I did feel a little bit insecure a the time.
“It was just a case of I got myself wound up.”
The beauty revealed while the other girls got themselves dolled up for the calendar shoot, she had not done the same.
Gemma said: I remember they all had acrylic nails and I didn’t. They had the roots of their hair done and I didn’t.
“I was young so I just didn’t think about those things. But everyone on Hollyoaks is lovely, no one went out of their way to make anybody feel [insecure] way.”
She added: ‘It was just a case of me growing up.”
Meanwhile, the former Strictly Come Dancing contestant recently revealed why her boyfriend Gorka Marquez, 28 is not on the Strictly Come Dancing Live! tour.
The radio host admitted the professional dancer has other work commitments.
She told the Express.co.uk: “Whatever Gorka wants to do I’m happy with him doing.
“He chose not to do the tour this year because he’s got a busy year after the tour.
“He’s got a professional tour that he’s doing with the other professional [dancers].”
The former Emmerdale star also revealed Gorka’s busy schedule meant he would have otherwise had work all the way through until next Christmas.
Gemma said: “He is extremely busy throughout the summer. And then he is back in Strictly.
So it was a case of if he did the tour as well, he would literally have no time off until next Christmas.”
She continued: “He is getting a good rest and he will hopefully back next year.”
Gorka revealed earlier last week on ITV’s Lorraine, that he will be joining Aljaž Škorjanic, 28, and Giovanni Pernice, 28, on their own dance tour called Here Comes The Boys.
Meanwhile, Gemma who has since released her own fitness book called The Ultimate Body Plan which features food recipes and a 12-week workout plan.
Speaking about the book, Gemma said: “It is more of a book which changes you from the inside. It’s about mentally feeling good as well.”
