Ruth Langsford: This Morning host hits out at GMB's Piers Morgan following NTA 2019 win

The 58-year-old likened Piers Morgan to a “green-eyed monster” after he moaned about losing at the National Television Awards. Ruth Langsford’s show This Morning beat Piers Morgan’s programme Good Morning Britain in the Best Daytime Show category at Tuesday night’s ceremony. Moments after the event Piers, 53, complained about missing out on a trophy and joked the vote had been hacked by Russians. “I think we were robbed,” the father-of-four insisted, “I think the election was rigged.”

He added: “I think the Russians were involved somehow. Donald Trump is almost certainly to blame for this.”

Talking about Piers, Ruth told The Sun: “I think there’s a touch of a green-eyed monster there.”

On Wednesday’s instalment of Good Morning Britain, Piers groaned about Anthony McPartlin’s eighteenth National Television Awards win.

Ant and Declan Donnelly, both 43, received an award for the Best Presenter category, despite the former suspending work for most of the year.

Last year, Ant stepped down from his TV commitments after a drink-driving conviction, leaving Dec to host most of Britain’s Got Talent and Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway alone.

Clearly annoyed by his win, Piers told viewers: “It was Ant McPartlin’s speech that really cemented it for me.

“You mean, seriously, he hasn’t been on TV for a year. The only time he gets out of bed in the morning is to walk the dog!”

Later, the journalist called the general public “gullible” after their decision to vote for Ant and Dec for another award.

He declared: “I’m still annoyed, I can’t lie. I’m still annoyed. You saw people win who barely worked last year!”

However, he did reveal EastEnders star Danny Dyer, 41, gave him some interesting advice before Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield won the Best Daytime Show category for This Morning.

“Danny Dyer said: ‘Look, if you lose go and clump Phillip Schofield – just clump him!’” the broadcaster explained.

Piers Morgan appeared extremely disappointed after the lost, but then burst out laughing and went to shake Holly and Phillip’s hands.

However, he later took to Twitter following the loss and seemed a little sour about missing out on the prize.

Piers responded to a GIF posted by ITV of the moment Good Morning Britain were beat and the network wrote next to it: “Bad luck, @PiersMorgan.”

He penned: “We can tell you’re absolutely delighted for @ThisMorning for scooping Best Daytime Show though. Vegan sausage rolls all round!”

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV at 6am.
