Google Maps improves as Android users receive a handy new feature

Google Maps is the American tech giant’s navigation software that is renowned for its accuracy and unique features such as Street View.

The tool is available to download on both Android and iOS platforms and can also be harnessed on desktops.

Google Maps is regularly updated by the American tech firm, bringing new functionality on a consistent basis.

However, features present on one platform do not always translate over to others.

For instance, the desktop version of Maps has long let users plan car journeys ahead of time by either scheduling when they want to depart or arrive.

However, until now such a feature was not present on either Android or iOS devices.

But now it appears Google is rolling out such functionality to Android users in a new version of the app.

First spotted by Android Police, the new tool can be accessed from the options button that is present on the top right-hand side of the software when a user starts to plan their journey.

Once the settings button has been pressed, a new toggle that reads “set depart and arrive time” should be present.

This will then display the Android fan with a menu that allows them to choose when they would like to depart and arrive in addition to the day they are leaving.

Google Maps will then plan out a route that accommodates for the previous entries.

It is worth noting the new feature is only available for car journeys.

Moreover, Google Maps already delivers the feature on mobile platforms where public transport is concerned.

As noted by Android Police, there is not currently a way to schedule a reminder for a journey that has been planned.

This means prompts cannot be issued to the user when they need to leave for instance.

The new feature for Google Maps is available now for Android devices.

It is currently unknown when iOS users can expect to receive the functionality.
