Coronation Street spoilers: 'He's always been weird' ITV viewers DENOUNCE dark incest plot

Tracy Barlow (played by Kate Ford) and Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) were shocked earlier this week when they discovered Amy Barlow (Elle Mulvaney) is pregnant.

The Coronation Street residents initially thought neighbour Aadi Alahan (Zennon Ditchett) was the father of their daughter’s unborn child after seeing them together.

But in last night’s episode of the ITV soap their suspicion turned to her cousin Simon Barlow (Alex Bain) after Steve spotted the pair talking.

The former pub owner and his wife then confronted Simon about whether he had impregnated the schoolgirl, which he categorically denied.

After, his furious dad, Peter Barlow, (Chris Gascoyne) threw the pair of them out of his house.

When Tracy and Steve had a conversation with Amy later, she told them she would not be having and abortion.

However, they did not give her their blessing and informed her of the consequences of making a child from incest.

But Tracy was adopted by Ken and Deirdre Barlow, therefore if Simon and Amy were to conceive a baby it would not have a combination of any genes.

What’s more, Coronation Street has revealed the father of Amy’s baby is, in fact, gang member Tyler Jefferies (Will Barnet).

Despite the identity of Amy’s baby daddy being revealed, fans were still mortified by the incest theory.

Discussing the shock plot twist on Twitter, one person wrote: “Tracy is right Simon has always been weird.”

Another commentator tweeted: “Oh my God Corrie what have you done to Simon and Amy?” while a third begged: “Please tell me Simon is not the father of Amy’s baby for goodness sake!”

A fourth fan shared: “Aren’t Amy and Simon cousins what the f***?”

Someone else penned: “Simon is the father, well it was bound to happen as there are a lot of people related on Coronation Street.”

Actress Elle Mulvaney, who plays Amy Barlow, recently opened up about her role and the importance of the storyline.

Admitting it is “scary” working on a teenage pregnancy story, she said: “Teenage pregnancy is not uncommon.

“It affects a lot of people, so I knew there was a responsibility to do it justice.”

Speaking to What’s On TV, she added: “I’ve taken it as a good opportunity to show what I’m capable of as an actress as Amy grows up.

“It’s also great to have that bit of recognition, to know that people believe in me and I’ve got the support behind me to do it.”

Coronation Street continues Friday on ITV at 7.30pm and 8.30pm.
