Brian May ‘Bohemian Rhapsody Best Picture nod amazing PUNCH in eye for WHINGEING critics’

Having received mixed reviews from the critics, Bohemian Rhapsody went on to make over $800 million worldwide. Defying the snooty response of reviews, the Freddie Mercury biopic has proven to be a fan favourite in the footsteps of The Greatest Showman. Having shocked Hollywood with its Best Drama Picture win at the Golden Globes earlier this month, Bohemian Rhapsody has now been nominated for five Oscars. The incredible achievement includes a Best Actor nod for Rami Malek and Best Picture.

And now Queen guitarist Brian May, who was very involved with Bohemian Rhapsody as creative and musical consultant, has responded to the news.

Posting on his Instagram, the 71-year-old, said: “Amazing to get FIVE Oscar nominations ! Thankful, grateful, blessed !!”

But May didn’t stop there, this is where he celebrated the achievement in the face of negative reviews from some film critics.

He continued: “Amazing punch in the eye for all those wingeing critics !”

Malek said: “It’s just something you never expect to happen. It’s like a distant dream that actors have and hope for to some degree.

“But it’s never really felt in the realm of possibilities — it’s a pretty joyous occasion to say the least.

“I think perhaps after getting the Globe, it seemed more attainable — but there’s something about hearing the words that you’re an Oscar-nominated actor that are still going to be incredibly shocking. It’s a profoundly humbling moment for me.”

Bohemian Rhapsody is out now.
