Rachel Riley: 'It's you!' Countdown star accuses Nick Hewer of cursing contestants

Countdown host Rachel Riley, 33, accused Nick Hewer, 74, of being the reason their guests leave the show after Kate Humble announced it was her last time in the dictionary corner for now. After her announcement, the ex Strictly Come Dancing star turned to the host and said: “I think it’s the curse of Hewer the skewer.” Smirking, he replied: “What have I done?” She explained: “The last two contestants you reminded have never lost… you put it in their mind, you have planted the seed. It’s terrible.”

Nick replied: “If that comes up again, I’m not saying anything. You give me your death row stare.”

Rachel responded: “Absolutely, I’m on it.”

Elsewhere, the blonde beauty recently reflected on her most embarrassing moment on the show as she celebrated her 10th anniversary.

Rachel said Nick made a comment that she was “gagging for a hard one”, which left her with her face in her hands.

She told The Mirror: “My most embarrassing moment is Nick Hewer telling everyone I was gagging for a hard one.

“I had my face in my hands. We had a series of easy number games and Nick told everybody I was gagging for a hard one.”

Rachel also recently said her co-star and Lexicographer Susie Dent, 54, was “pure filth” and jokingly accused her of bringing out her boyfriend Pasha’s naughty side.

During a chat with Lorraine Kelly on her self-titled show, the host reflected on Pasha, 39, appearing on Countdown and referred to him as “naughty”.

Rachel replied: “He has, well it’s Susie Dent’s fault really. She’s a bad influence.

“She puts the serious face on but she is absolute filth that one.”

Rachel, who has been in a relationship with Pasha for five years, has discussed moments with her boyfriend in various episodes of the show.

Last month, she revealed the Strictly Come Dancing pro had forgotten to wrap up her christmas gifts.

She told Nick: “I did get a present once from Pasha and he did forget to wrap it, which doesn’t bother me.

“He just found whatever he could wrap it with and he just wrapped it in a towel.”

Rachel went on to say the pair don’t celebrate Christmas due to Russian-born Pasha’s tradition.

She said: “I get away with it because Russians don’t do Christmas, they do New Year.”

Countdown airs weekdays at 2.10pm on Channel 4.
