Carmelo Anthony backed to join Lakers by Shaquille O'Neal for THIS reason

Anthony was traded by the Houston Rockets to the Chicago Bulls on Monday night.

And it is expected that he will be released by the franchise and picked up elsewhere by a different team.

The 34-year-old had been placed on the inactive list by the Rockets earlier in the season and has not played since November.

The Lakers have been rumoured to be interested in Anthony for some time now, and are said to be looking at taking him.

However, their roster is currently full, meaning they would have to release a player in order to get Anthony.

Lakers legend O’Neal, one of the best players in the history of the NBA, gave his full support to Anthony and explained that he would do well at the franchise.

“I think he’s a Laker fit,” Shaq said.

“I think he’s upset right now, a little bit embarrassed.

“I think a lot of people think he’s done.

“But he’s got another two or more years left.

“I think it’s a good city for him, a warm city.

“If he can get some opportunities especially when LeBron is out of the game, he’ll get it going and create a spark for them.”

LeBron James and Anthony are close friends and have been for some time, with James even publicly supporting him earlier in the year.

The Lakers were defeated by the Golden State Warriors 130-111 on Monday night.

They are still ninth in the NBA Western Conference, and are expecting James to return later this week.
