Kyrie Irving: Boston Celtics fans all say the same thing after Miami Heat win

Through his last four games, the star has scored 123 points, as the Celtics attempt to turn their fortunes around.

The Celtics were a pre-season favourite to challenge the Golden State Warriors for the NBA title.

However, after a poor start, the Celtics found themselves slumped in the middle of the NBA Eastern Conference.

They are now on a four-game win streak, their most impressive win coming as they defeated the Toronto Raptors 117-108 thanks to a series of clutch shots from Irving.

And his form has led to fans calling for him to be named NBA Most Valuable Player.

Currently, James Harden of the Houston Rockets is considered to be running away with the award, but pundits have criticised his ability to carry his form through late into the season.

Colin Cowherd of Fox Sports pointed out that he has never won a NBA title, but in the past five seasons, he has led the point scoring in December three times.

But Irving, who won the NBA title in 2016, is starting to come into form slightly later in the season than Harden, and could have the advantage in the MVP race if the Celtics continue to impress.

The Celtics are currently fifth in the NBA Eastern Conference, secure in a playoff position.

After a night against the Miami Heat in which he scored 26 points, ten assists, three rebounds and a career-high eight steals in 34 minutes, Irving fans took to Twitter to call for him to receive recognition.

“Might be time to start considering Kyrie’s MVP candidacy” one wrote.

Another posted: “Kyrie a MVP candidate. Believe that.”

One fan tweeted: “Kyrie earns to be in the MVP discussion!”

“When will Kyrie be seriously considered in the MVP race?” another commented.

One fan claimed that Irving is the MVP so long as he continues his form. They wrote: “If Kyrie keeps playing the way he has been lately he’s my MVP no question”

Irving grabbed the headlines over the weekend as he admitted that he called LeBron James to apologise for the way he acted while the pair played for the Cleveland Cavaliers.
