Coronation Street cast: Faye Brookes breaks silence on MAJOR news – ‘We were both crying’

Faye Brookes, 31, admitted she was overcome with emotion when Gareth Gates, 34, got down on one knee and popped the question in New York City.

The Coronation Street actress said ‘I do’ after the Pop Idol singer proposed with a 4-carat diamond ring and self-penned 17-minute song.

Of the proposal, she shared: “We were both crying the whole way through. Once it was finished, Gareth got down on one knee and said, ‘Will you spend the rest of your life with me?’ And of course, I said yes straight away.”

Gushing about her engagement ring, the soap star described the piece of jewellery as “beautiful” and said the proposal was “perfect”.

She told OK! Magazine: “It’s every girl’s dream to find the perfect man for her and then have the perfect engagement, so I feel very lucky.

“To have such a beautiful ring and to share the most brilliant life with my best friend is everything I’ve ever wanted.

“He could have put any ring on my finger and I would have said yes.”

The pair’s engagement comes just months after they announced they had broken up, with the singer’s manager telling Express.co.uk: “They remain the best of friends and hopefully after some time apart they’ll be clearer on what the future holds for them.”

In September, Faye shared the news of their split with her 75,000 Twitter followers, saying: “Unfortunately @Gareth_Gates and I are choosing to take some time apart.

“We remain the very best of friends. We’d like to thank you all for your support over the years.”

Two months after the twosome confirmed they were back together again and enjoyed a romantic getaway together in November.

Of their brief split, Gareth said: “There was a lot of strain on our relationship because I was always away with work.

“And Faye’s schedule was getting even busier so we decided we needed some breathing space.”

The couple met in 2012 while working on Legally Blonde: The Musical together.

Faye previously called their meeting “fate”, saying: “I totally believe in fate and that he was meant to walk into my life for a reason.”

She went on to tell Fabulous Magazine: “He became my best friend and it blossomed into us becoming this unbelievable duo.

“He was the one person who allowed me to let my guard down – for me to be silly, laugh at myself and not take life too seriously.”

The star recently paid tribute to her fiancé on Instagram with a touching post, professing her love for the musician.

It read: “You remind me that my heart is still alive.

“Because every time you come home it beats so hard it brings me back to life.”
