Liverpool transfer news: Jurgen Klopp comes under question over January window deal

Clyne was allowed to join Bournemouth on loan until the end of the season after finding his path to the starting XI blocked by the impressive Trent Alexander-Arnold.

But the young right-back has since picked up an injury which may keep him on the sidelines for a few weeks.

Without Clyne and Alexander-Arnold, Klopp played James Milner at right-back against Crystal Palace on Saturday.

And the former England international struggled against Wilfried Zaha before eventually being sent off after several fouls in the 4-3 win for Liverpool.

With Joe Gomez also out with an injury, midfielder Fabinho may have to deputise in the defence again.

And speaking on Sky Sports, Redknapp was bewildered by Klopp’s decision making.

”Alexander-Arnold, was he not quite fit?” he said.

“I can’t understand the decision to let Clyne go out.

“I know you can play James Milner at right-back and I know he can fill in anywhere.

“He’s such an important player but it makes you wonder why he let Clyne go out at this moment.

“I don’t quite understand that.”

Liverpool have 11 days until their next game against Leicester City after being knocked out of the FA Cup.

And Klopp feels the break will allow Liverpool to recover players.

He said: “It is a break in that period.

“If I would imagine Millie out and Fabinho for sure a doubt it would’ve been a massive challenge if we would play on Wednesday or Saturday again.

“I have no idea how that would’ve worked – we couldn’t do that, honestly.

“It will be now two days of recovery for the boys with the most minutes and the others train of course, and then we start the preparation for the Leicester game, which is another tough task.

“That’s why we are here but it will not be a real break, we have to use it for training.”
