Ant McPartlin latest: Ant and Dec star breaks silence on addiction and ‘rock’ Anne-Marie

Ant McPartlin has said his girlfriend Anne-Marie Corbett is the “fundamental reason” he has was able to change his life around, after a painkiller and alcohol addiction. The Ant and Dec star has been sober for over nine months after being charged for drink-driving, getting an £86,000 fine and a 20-month ban. In an interview with The Sun, the 43-year-old said he’s now in the “best place” of his life, crediting his new partner. He said he no longer speaks to his estranged wife Lisa Armstrong and that legal proceedings are ongoing.

Ant commented: “Anne-Marie honestly is the fundamental reason for the great change in my life. She’s been my rock. She’s a beautiful soul. We’re very happy.

“I’m in the best place I’ve been in my life, to be honest with you. It’s great.”

When asked if his personal assistant of many years had broken the so-called girl code, he branded it “absolute rubbish”.

He stated: “I don’t feel the need to defend Anne-Marie but I will say you’ve got to be careful judging other people’s relationships or what you think is the truth that’s been put out there.”

Meanwhile, during the candid chat, Ant said not addressing his alcohol addiction after rehab was what “led to the day of the crash”.

Referring to March 18 as the “worst day of my life”, the presenter said the “whole world came crashing in”.

He says prior to that life-changing moment, he had been “adamant” he didn’t have a problem with alcohol.

Ant continued: “I’d just gotten over this massive painkiller addiction. I didn’t take on board as much as I should how much your head scrambles once you face an addiction head-on and overcome it.

“Your head goes crazy because you’ve relied upon something for so long then all you’re left with is yourself.”

The Geordie was pictured looking better than ever alongside his best fiend and co-star Declan Donnelly earlier this week.

The duo reunited on the first day of filming for the latest series of Britain’s Got Talent, returning as hosts.

“#BGT 2019. Audition day 1. The boys are back in town!” they wrote on their joint Instagram account.

Beaming at the camera, they were seen in the back of a car with huge smiles on their faces.

The upload quickly received more than 647,000 likes and a number of replies from their 2.8 million followers.

Two wrote back: “Best news ever HOORAY!!!” and: “Welcome back, so happy to see the boys back together. Saturday night telly hasn’t been the same without you on it. You’re looking fab Ant x.”

Britain’s Got Talent 2019 is expected to return to ITV early this year.
