Tom Jones health: The Voice UK coach makes ‘very special’ announcement after illness

Sir Tom Jones, 78, will be singing at the Jazz and Heritage Festival in New Orleans, Louisiana this summer.

The Voice UK coach and his band are due to perform on May 2 to celebrate 50 years of the jazz festival.

Announcing the news on Instagram, he wrote: “Very honoured to be playing the world famous @jazzfest in New Orleans this May!

“⁣My band and I will be playing amongst a brilliant array of artists including @therollingstones @mavisstaples @leonbridgesofficial @vanmorrisonofficial @herbiehancockofficial @ziggymarley and many many more.”

He continued: “Celebrating 50 years, this year’s festival is going to be very special.”

Fans of the star were thrilled to learn he would be joining the star-studded line-up and commented on his post.

One person exclaimed: “I AM SO EXCITED TO SEE YOU AT JAZZ FEST,” while another said: “I might just have to go this year.”

A third fan shared: “OMG! See you there @realsirtomjones our first time this year, super excited.”(sic)

Someone else added: “Wow! I need to get there! LOVE the line-up,” while a fifth commentator begged: “Somebody buy me a ticket.”

This year Sir Tom will also be performing in Tel Aviv, Israel, where he has performed several times before, including in 2013 and 2017.

He is due to take to the stage at the Menorah Mivtachim Arena on July 3, before heading to Denmark for a gig.

The Welsh singer has an extensive tour this year, including shows in the United Sates, Austria and Germany.

Last year, Sir Tom was forced to cancel a number of concerts as he battled a bacterial infection.

At the time, updates were announced on his Twitter page which stated he had been treated in hospital.

The legendary singer and songwriter returned to the stage in August, two months after being hospitalised.

Speaking about the illness, he told The Mirror: “I was on the road and when we got to London, I was feeling weak.

“I wasn’t feeling so good and they said, ‘You had better get yourself checked, your blood and everything’.”

The Delilah chart-topper added: “I just didn’t feel good and they said you need antibiotics. So they gave it intravenously and that was it.

“If it had happened at another time, nobody would have taken any notice. I would have gone in for a couple of days and that would have been it. But I had to cancel shows. So that was a big deal.”

The Voice UK 2019 continues tonight on ITV at 8pm.
