Sky Sports pundit Dharmesh Sheth makes Tottenham transfer window prediction

Tottenham sold midfielder Dembele, who was out of contract in the summer, to Chinese Super League side Guangzhou R&F this week..

But Sky Sports reporter Sheth has predicted in his sport predictions that owner Daniel Levy will instead keep the cash in the bank and NO new signings will be on their way this month.

That’s despite frontman Harry Kane being crocked until March and Mauricio Pochettino being short of high quality replacements.

He is likely to play Fernando Llorente up front against Fulham on Sunday for what would be the Spaniard’s second Premier League start for the club.

Asked if Pochettino could spend the Dembele money, Sheth told the Transfer Talk podcast: “Potentially yes, in reality you’d have to say not sure or no.

“Just bear this in mind. Tottenham were the only club not to buy a player in the last summer transfer window since the window system came into force.

“Add to that, listen to this stat, they’ve only signed three players in the winter window since they signed Lewis Holtby back in 2013 – Dele Alli, Lucas Moura and DeAndre Yedlin. Those are the three, believe it or not, who have been signed in January in the last six years.

“The news coming out of Tottenham is the absence of Kane and Son Heung-min is that they won’t change their transfer plans at all.”

Chairman Levy is notoriously tight with his cash and Sheth thinks panic buying in January would be against every strategy the Spurs chief has.

“If you think about it, chairman Daniel Levy, we all know what he’s lke,” Sheth added.

“He’s renowned at being one of the toughest negotiators in the game – but this would be in reverse.

“Just imagine this scenario, Tottenham went into the market with the potential selling clubs knowing they were desperate because Harry Kane is injured. You can imagine them adding a premium to any transfer fee or loan fee.

“Add to that – and any player coming in – knowing they’d only be realistically selected in Kane’s absence, when he returns they’re out of the team again.

“I get the impression Tottenham will carry on with what they’ve got.

“In conclusion, Tottenham are very careful about who they buy. There’s always a long-term strategy normally attached to most of their signings.

“If I was to put money on it, I get the impression that he won’t be panicked going into the transfer market and he will carry on with what he’s got.”
