LIVERPOOL 0-0 CRYSTAL PALACE

5: Crystal Palace are camped inside their own half as Liverpool continue to press. James Milner embarks on a run down the right flank before cross to fellow full-back Andrew Robertson, who doesn’t connect with a stooping header.

3: Roy Hodgson has deployed Wilfried Zaha on the left flank to try and exploit James Milner. Not got any change from the makeshift right-back yet.

Liverpool having plenty of possession.

LIVERPOOL 0-0 CRYSTAL PALACE

1: And we’re underway at Anfield and across the Premier League. Should be a routine win for Jurgen Klopp’s side – but Crystal Palace have a habit of putting spanners in the works.

Can Arsenal keep their Champions League hopes alive?

14:50: Shameless self-promotion warning. We’ll be covering Arsenal vs Chelsea straight after the final whistle here at Anfield.

The Gunners host Chelsea sitting fifth in the Premier League, six points behind the fourth-placed visitors.

Arsenal boss Unai Emery admitted they can only sign loans to strengthen this month, while Chelsea are tying up a loan deal for Gonzalo Higuain themselves.

But without serious strengthening cracking the top four again remains a tall order for a Gunners side who lost 1-0 at West Ham last week.

Twitter round-up

Thomas: Can’t wait to see Naby Keita today, could be any formation but I’d prefer to see him centrally.

Chris: Haven’t thought about the game at all today but think palace are going to put 10 men behind the ball and make it a tough afternoon.

John: Naby Keita needs to produce against Palace, Robertson was handed an opportunity and hasn’t looked back since… Keita needs to do the same big chance today!

‘A couple of issues’

14:40: Jurgen Klopp has explained his team selection today.

“We had a couple of issues during the week,” Klopp said. “So I had to find solutions and I like the solution. Millie trained the position the whole week; Naby trained outstandingly well, so I like to show I see something like that.

“And the rest was pretty clear and straightforward that we do it like this – because Gini and Trent are not ready for today. That’s it, that’s the reason for the line-up.”

Formidable

14:35: Liverpool are unbeaten in their last 31 Premier League home games – they last had a longer run in the top-flight between February 1978 and December 1980, a club record run of 63 home games without defeat.

They think it’s all over…

14:30: It most certainly is all over at Molineux with Diogo Jota scoring a 93rd-minute winner to complete a historic hat-trick and give Wolves a 4-3 victory.

Sensational game of football. Catch the highlights later if you get the chance – you won’t regret it!

Jules returns

14:25: Julian Speroni starts. This is NOT a drill.

The Argentine will make his first appearance for the 14th-placed South Londoners since December, 2017 and will be tasked with keeping out the league’s joint top scorer Salah.

Crystal Palace’s first and second-choice goalkeepers Vicente Guaita and Wayne Hennessey are injured.

“Julian is a very, very active goalkeeper, certainly in our training sessions I don’t notice any difference in him from when he played a year ago; I’m happy that we’ve got him. He’s looking forward to it, has confidence in himself,” Hodgson said.

Game of the season…

14:20: I tell you what, Liverpool and Crystal Palace will have to produce something special to be first on Match of the Day tonight.

It’s currently 3-3 between Wolves and Leicester heading into injury time. Every time Claude Puel seems to *really* need a result, Leicester dig deep.

Best game I’ve seen this season. You know it’s a great game when you think Tony Pulis would hate it…

Twitter round-up

Conall: I say it every week but today’s game against Crystal Palace is unbelievably important. Win and we go 7 points clear and shift the pressure back on City. Full confidence in the lads today!!! UP THE REDS!

Ian: Come on Redmen! Three points today. One game at a time. Don’t worry about the other teams. Let’s get the job done today. Destiny is in our own hands.

Ton: Jurgen Klopp not messing around with the his selection today. Looking forward to this one. Big game. Big win needed.

Thanks, Conall. Same time next week?

Team news – James Milner plays right-back

14:10: Liverpool midfielder James Milner was asked to fill in at right-back for the injured Trent Alexander-Arnold as one of three changes for the visit of Crystal Palace.

Fellow midfielder Naby Keita and centre-back Joel Matip also came in for the injured Georginio Wijnaldum and Xherdan Shaqiri with Fabinho moving back into midfield after deputising in central defence last weekend.

Palace goalkeeper Julian Speroni – currently the Premier League’s oldest player, who turns 40 in May – made his first appearance since December 2017 because of injuries to Vicente Guaita and Wayne Hennessey.

Done Deal: Trent signs

14:05: As you’ll probably know, Trent Alexander-Arnold has signed a new long-term contract.

The deal, which is understood to tie Alexander-Arnold to Liverpool until 2024, reflects the remarkable progress the 20-year-old has made since his last contract in 2017.

“I’m ecstatic and really proud,” Alexander-Arnold said. “I feel privileged to have the support and the trust the club has in me to offer me a new deal.

“There was no doubt in my mind to sign and extend the years I have with the club. Hopefully we can achieve a lot of success in those years.”

The starting XI…

14:00: And here they are. I suppose the headline news is that Trent Alexander-Arnold isn’t in the squad. Oh, 39-year-old veteran third-choice goalkeeper Julian Speroni starts…

Liverpool XI: Alisson, Robertson, Van Dijk, Matip, Milner, Fabinho, Henderson, Keita, Mane, Salah, Firmino.

Subs: Mignolet, Sturridge, Moreno, Lallana, Shaqiri, Origi, Camacho.

Crystal Palace XI: Speroni, Van Aanholt, Tomkins, Sakho, Wan-Bissaka, McArthur, Milivojevic, Kouyate, Townsend, Ayew, Zaha.

Subs: Tupper, Dann, Meyer, Schlupp, Benteke, Wickham, Kelly.

Will Liverpool slip up?

13:55: The leaders host the Eagles, with Palace having won three of their last four trips to Anfield.

Their 2-1 win in April 2017 is Liverpool’s last home league defeat, with the Reds now unbeaten in 31 top-flight games at Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are four points clear of Manchester City but they need to avoid more Palace problems to maintain the gap at the top.

Afternoon

13:50: Hello everyone and welcome to our LIVE coverage of Liverpool vs Crystal Palace.

How are y’all feeling today? We’re already up and running in the Premier League with a ding-dong doozy at Molineux Stadium.

Wolves went 2-0 up in the opening 12 minutes but a rollocking at half-time appears to have done the trick for Leicester, who are now level.

I’ll keep you updated with that but we’ll be focusing on events at Anfield where Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool will look to extend their advantage.

Team news and line-ups coming your way shortly. Standby…

LIVERPOOL vs CRYSTAL PALACE

Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold and midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum are expected to miss the visit of Crystal Palace.

The pair have both sustained knee injuries of differing severity and although Jurgen Klopp insists they will be assessed “day-by-day” it is unlikely they will be considered.

Midfielder Adam Lallana is back in training after a muscle injury but centre-back Dejan Lovren (hamstring) will not be available until the end of the month.

Goalkeeper Julian Speroni will start for Crystal Palace – making his first appearance since December 2017.

The 39-year-old is the Premier League’s oldest player and will be promoted after Vicente Guaita suffered a calf strain and Wayne Hennessey a muscle injury in last week’s defeat by Watford.

Christian Benteke is pushing to start for Palace, having returned from injury as a substitute in that 2-1 home defeat.

Liverpool provisional squad: Alisson, Milner, Van Dijk, Matip, Robertson, Henderson, Fabinho, Shaqiri, Firmino, Mane, Salah, Mignolet, Camacho, Moreno, Lallana, Keita, Origi, Sturridge.

Crystal Palace provisional squad: Speroni, Wan-Bissaka, Sakho, Kelly, Van Aanholt, Dann, Riedewald, Townsend, Kouyate, McArthur, Meyer, Milivojevic, Schlupp, Benteke, Ayew, Kaikai, Wickham.
