Carol Kirkwood: BBC star admits she idolises Phillip Schofield – 'He's got a good career'

Carol Kirkwood, 56, praised Phillip Schofield, 56, on carving out a successful career in television.

The BBC Breakfast host, who has worked on the programme since 1998, said she admired the Dancing On Ice host’s work ethic.

When Radio Times asked her who had the ideal career, the broadcaster singled out the This Morning presenter.

Explaining why she chose the ITV regular, she said: “There’s the regular gig during the week, then he’s got The Cube, Mr & Mrs and all the big events, like the royal wedding.

“He’s got a pretty good career.”

During the interview in 2013, Carol also gushed about two other famous faces, the first being David Soul, a Hollywood actor and singer.

Revealing the 75-year-old as her TV crush, she said: “David Soul when he played Hutch in Starsky and Hutch.”

The TV personality was lucky enough to meet her idol in person during a television appearance.

“I was on The One Show once as a guest and met him,” she recounted.

After, the radio presenter revealed singer Bryan Adams had left her speechless when he appeared on BBC Breakfast.

“I love him,” she swooned. “He was a guest on [BBC] Breakfast and I wanted to say hello, but I couldn’t pluck up the courage.”

She recalled: “Eventually I did, but I was so nervous I could hardly speak. He was so lovely as well.”

The award-winning weather reporter also has a soft spot for actor Jeremy Piven, who plays Harry Selfridge in the ITV drama series Mr Selfridge.

Of the show, she remarked: “All my friends laugh at me, but I loved it. I like Jeremy Piven.

“I just love the storylines and the cheesiness of it: perfect Sunday-night telly, glass of wine, happy days!”

Also, she enjoyed watching Would I Lie to You?, which airs on BBC One and is presented by actor and comedian Rob Brydon, 53.

“I’ve been on it and some of those comedians are so quick, so dry,” the meteorologist divulged.

Carol went on to dismiss claims the show is “scripted” as she continued to praise the comics on the programme.

“They make you laugh so hard. People say it’s all scripted but nothing was.”

BBC Breakfast airs weekdays on BBC One at 6am.
