Rangers transfer EXCLUSIVE: Steven Gerrard approves Jordan Rossiter exit

United want to take the 21-year-old midfielder on loan for the rest of the season to bolster their bid to gain promotion from the Championship.

However, Robbie Neilson’s side face competition from England, with Fleetwood Town manager Joey Barton closely monitoring the situation.

Ibrox boss Steven Gerrard is prepared to let Rossiter leave, but any deal would require Rangers to cover a large chunk of the former Liverpool youngster’s wages.

The capture of the England youth international in 2016 was seen as a major coup when he was brought in by Mark Warburton, but his time at Rangers has been dogged by injury.

Rangers are currently second in the Scottish Premiership.

They are level on points with league leaders Celtic, but have played one more game and are five goals behind on goal difference.

As Rangers approach the half-way point of the season, Gerrard insists he is “delighted” with the progress that has been made.

“In terms of the league we are obviously in a healthy position on the back of a really important Old Firm win,” said Gerrard.

“But looking back and analysing it there are still areas where we can get better and we can improve.

“Look, it’s all to play for.

“The important thing for us is to focus on the next three points but I am not going to sit here and lie.

“We have got targets in-house that we all want to go and achieve and that’s the way it should be at a big club.”

A player who could be moving in the other direction is Dundee’s Glen Kamara.

The 23-year-old Finnish midfielder is expected to leave the club in the summer and move to Ibrox for free, but Gerrard is keen to bring him in during this transfer window.

The Daily Star reports that Rangers want Kamara in by the weekend, when the club return to action following Scotland’s winter break.

Rangers next opponent is Cowdenbeath, who the will play on Friday in the Scottish Cup fourth-round.
