Denise Welch: Loose Women star reveals she caused guest to 'storm out shouting 'f*** off''

The 60-year-old actress and presenter took a trip down memory lane as she recalled one horrifyingly awkward incident on Loose Women. “I remember once Robin Gibb was waiting backstage to come on,” Denise Welch told Express.co.uk. “I think it was a pre-record, not live. We were showing a montage of all of the amazing Bee Gees records and all the things they’ve done and I was like the biggest Bee Gees fan.

“A bit of Night Fever came on and I started to sort of do my Night Fever moved in my seat,” she continued. “And the audience laughed and Robin Gibb, who couldn’t see a monitor, thought they were laughing at him.”

The former Coronation Street star said the Bee Gees legend had shouted from behind-the-scenes: “‘You can all f**k off’”, adding: “And he walked out of the building!

“He didn’t come back,” she exclaimed.

“I inadvertently created a storm out and it was a really, really hairy moment because he shouted it really loud and the audience laughed, thinking it was all part of the act, but it wasn’t at all.

“I remember thinking, ah I wish that was live!” Denise laughed mischievously.

Another memory which stuck out in her mind as she looked back over her time on Loose Women from 2005 until 2013 was exposing herself for Russell Brand.

“I remember flashing my boobs to Russell Brand and then thinking, oh my god, why on earth did I do that on television?!” she said.

When asked why, indeed, she had chosen to flash the comedian, Denise said: “He said, ‘I’ve been on this show for five minutes and no one’s done anything remotely loose.’

“But, of course, as usual I was wearing the worst bra,” she giggled.

“All the girls used to say to me, ‘If you’re going to flash your bra at least get a good one!’ So I had to up my underwear collection.”

Meanwhile, Denise is an ambassador for LighterLife, which she used to help her shed two stone five years ago and which has helped her maintain her slimmer figure ever since.

New research conducted by the brand found 70 per cent of women are dissatisfied with their bodies, with the Calendar Girls: The Musical star adding: “Many use the word ‘disgusted’ which we find an incredibly emotive and powerful word.

“We can all be a bit off about ourselves sometimes. We’ve all looked in the mirror and gone, ‘Oh my god, I must get rid or that bit’ or ‘I must wear a top that covers that bit’ but to actually use the word ‘disgusted’, it’s really sad that many people are carrying that around with them,” she said.

“I now feel happier and more content in my body at 60, with all the bumps and lumps and scraggy bits that have come with that, than I ever did when I was 40 or 50,” she said frankly.

“We all know how to diet, we all know that if you don’t eat that much, you lose weight but then you put it back on again, because you haven’t learned how to change the crooked thinking.

“This is what LighterLife do and that’s why my life changed. I realised I had an addiction and I changed my mindset,” she revealed.

“LighterLife helped me lose two stone and helped maintain it, but what they did was they also increased my self-esteem and the love of my body because of the cognitive behavioural therapy tools. It’s much more than just a diet, it’s a lifestyle change.”

LighterLife has commissioned this research as part of a wider campaign to help people live healthier lives, boosting confidence, self-esteem and assertiveness. Denise Welch lost 2 stone in 2 months following the LighterLife Total Plan, and has been maintaining her weight with the LighterLife FlexiFasting Plan.
