Spider-Man Far From Home villain: Who is Mysterio? Spider-Man villain origins REVEALED

Jake Gyllenhaal will be joining the ranks of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as its next main villain, going by the name of Mysterio. The character is known as one of Spider-Man’s most famous adversaries, but doesn’t seem to be the only antagonist in the upcoming film. Mysterio will be joined by three other element-based villains according to the trailer, taking on rock, water and what appears to be molten lava respectively. Many people are now curious as to who the main villain is however, as it seems he is branding himself as a hero.

Who is Mysterio?

The character of Mysterio is one of spider-Man’s most famous foes, a core member of his gallery of rogues.

Mysterio’s real name is Quentin Beck, a special effects whiz working in the Hollywood film industry.

Beck became obsessed with attaining fame, and used his talents to take down an (at the time) experienced Spider-Man, in a bid for recognition.

Using a suit with a fishbowl helmet to disguise his face and voice, and deploying various special effects techniques, he elected to use his talents for evil.

Since his first appearance in 1963, he has been in and out of major Spider-Man storylines.

In the comic Marvel Knights: Spider-Man volume 2, the webslinger describes Mysterio himself.

He says: “I learned this a long time ago. Never listen to Mysterio.

“Not because he tends to go on and on (which is true).

“He’s got illusions, the gas, but the helmet gives his speech pattern some crazy mind-bending properties.”

Is Mysterio related to Doctor Strange?

In the trailer, Mysterio seemed to be using magic akin to the Sorcerer Supreme, Doctor Strange.

The circular shield-like conjurations and triangles seemed to be emulating Stephen Strange’s own abilities.

However, Mysterio is not a known magic user, and is instead likely using other techniques.

With his abilities in special effects and explosives, fans believe the villains are fabricated, in order to help Beck gain his fame.

Mysterio may have seen footage of the most recent battle of New York in Avengers: Infinity War, and be emulating Doctor Strange’s magic.

He may also have created the elemental figures using special effects in order for it to seem like he was ‘saving’ people from a pretend threat.

All of this would fold in well to a ploy to garner fame for his work.
