Samsung Galaxy S8 owners can now download Android 9 Pie – Here's how to get it

Galaxy S8 released back in 2017 and was one of the first device’s to tout an all-screen design.

Although its bezels above and below its screen seem sizeable now, at the time it offered an incredibly high screen-to-body ratio for Android fans to enjoy.

The hardware arrived with a 5.8-inch display while its larger brother, the Galaxy S8+, came with a 6.2-inch panel.

Both screens are still some of the best around thanks to laudable viewing angles, vibrant colours and a high 1440p resolution.

Galaxy S8 and S8+ were powered by either the South Korean OEM’s own Exynos 8895 chipset or Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 processor depending on the region it was sold in.

Either unit was accompanied by either 4GB of RAM for the standard S8 or up to 6GB of RAM for the Galaxy S8+.

When the S8 and S8+ launched they came pre-installed with Android 7 Nougat but have since been updated to Android 8 Oreo.

And Samsung has confirmed both will receive an upgrade to Android 9 Pie with the firm’s One UI skin running on top of it in March.

Yesterday Galaxy Note 8 owners reported they were able to sign up for a One UI beta programme, giving them early access to the software.

Such news provided Galaxy S8 and S8+ owners with hope they could receive the same treatment.

And now it appears owners of both devices are also able to sign up for a One UI beta, too.

SamMobile reported the initiative launched in India first but is expected to arrive in other territories.

The Galaxy Note 8 One UI beta has been released in regions that include the UK and South Korea.

So it is surely possible the same areas will be granted a One UI beta for the Galaxy S8 and S8+.

Galaxy S8 and S8+ owners can check if they are able to sign up for the scheme using the Samsung Members app.

Once the software has been opened, users should press the “notices” button that is present in app’s side bar on the left-hand side.

It is worth noting both the Galaxy S9 and Note 9 also received an Android 9 Pie beta before the full version of the operating system debuted.
