Star Wars 9: Kylo Ren actor says Episode IX is LAST CHANCE to 'go back and get it right'

The countdown has begun. There are just eleven months to go until the entire Skywalker saga ends on the big screen. After 42 years there have been numerous ups and downs and some major fan revolts, but none more so than over the last 12 months as a major backlash consumed The Last Jedi. Rumours abound that JJ Abams will “course correct” the perceived failings of Rian Johnson’s Episode 8 which sparked a huge division in the fandom. Now one of the main stars has revealed how the final film offers a chance to “go back” and that he always knew something important about the ending.

Adam Driver’s Kylo Ren has plenty of his own issues to work out after killing his father, breaking his mother’s heart, betraying his master and assuming leadership of the evil First Order.

The actor has spoken of why he finds filming movies “torturous” and revealed that he has always known one important fact about how the entire Star Wars saga will end.

In a new interview with Deadline he said: “I think with Star Wars, it’s six years this year that I’ve known about it or been working on it…

“I had one piece of information of where it was all going, and that’s where it has been in my head for a long time, and things were building towards that.”

Unsurprisingly, he gave no further hint what that information might be, but he admitted he relished the chance given by a series of movies to go back and refine what was done before.

Naturally, many fans will seize on the hope JJ Abrams is somehow bringing the franchise back to a tone and content many felt was abandoned and disrespected in The Last Jedi.

Driver added: “It feels very theatrical, if anything. Because in the plays that I’ve done, a six-month run, on the very last day, you finally feel like, ‘Oh, now I have a better understanding of what it is that I want to do. I wish we could do this all over again.’ Working on a play, the questions you can ask yourself are infinite, and that’s what’s torturous about film sometimes – you only have one shot to get it right.”

“And you can do a lot of takes, but we’re not all going to get back together again and do this. But for something you’re doing for six years, you still have a chance to go back and make something a little bit more articulated.”

What exactly Driver means is widely open to interpretation. Whether he is simply talking about his own performance or the wider storylines remains to be seen.
