Samsung Galaxy S9: This simple trick could dramatically improve your phone's battery life

Galaxy S9 is almost a year old; the hardware debuted at Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona last year and brought a number of incremental upgrades for fans.

The South Korean OEM’s hardware improved upon its predecessor aesthetically by placing its fingerprint sensor in a more accessible location for users.

Moreover, the Galaxy S9 also presented Android enthusiasts with a sizeable camera upgrade.

The hardware arrived with a 12-megapixel sensor that boasted a variable aperture, allowing its lens to open or close depending on the lighting conditions.

Samsung’s S-line device came with a 3,000mAh battery while its larger S9+ device came with a 3,500mAh pack.

Although neither’s capacity was industry leading, especially when compared to phones such as the Huawei Mate 20 Pro that arrived in particular with a 4,200mAh battery, it was still capable to delivering all-day life for many users.

However, some Galaxy S9 and S9+ owners, in addition to others with different devices from the South Korean OEM, are insisting Samsung Pay is causing noticeable battery drain.

One owner in particular took to Reddit to explain the app was responsible and that a third-party battery monitor alerted them to the problem.

Another user commented on the thread and stated they were experiencing a drain of up to 60 percent from the application.

Android Police first reported on the issue plaguing some Samsung phones and posted a screenshot of another instance where an owner saw 23 percent of their total battery drained by the service.

It appears either uninstalling the app entirely or adjusting its settings is the only way to prevent its behaviour on reported devices.

For those that harness Samsung Pay and want to keep it on their device, changing the battery optimisation toggle to “not optimised” appears to be a solution to battery draining.

In order to perform this action do the following on your device:

• Go to settings > Apps > Samsung Pay Framework > Battery

• Turn the battery optimisation switch to “not optimised”

Samsung has not commented on the battery drain issues reported by some owners.

It is unknown if the South Korean OEM plans to release a fix.
