Megan Barton-Hanson speaks out on Wes Nelson after Vanessa rant: 'It'll be difficult now'

The 24-year-old Love Island star, who has been with Wes Nelson, 20, since they met on the show last summer, hit out at professional skater Vanessa Bauer, 22, yesterday after news of her split from her boyfriend emerged on the day of her first performance with Wes. Now, Megan Barton-Hanson has said she anticipates “difficulty” going forwards with Wes’ journey on Dancing On Ice. “It’s a funny coincidence that Vanessa’s break-up came out the night they performed, she clearly wanted to get more hype around their performance,” she told The Sun, insisting Vanessa “knows the score”. “She knows questions are going to be asked about her and Wes and me being worried about them spending time together.”

Megan continued: “Every woman will tell you it’s not ideal to have your boyfriend spending 12 hours a day with another woman. A little introduction from Vanessa would have gone a long way.”

The reality star admitted it wasn’t “easy to watch” her boyfriend acting loved-up with Vanessa for their routine.

She said her relationship with Wes was her “main priority” and was “stronger than ever”, adding: “I am so passionate about him but it is going to be difficult now.

“I want to back him, but I don’t want to feel awkward.”

Megan revealed she didn’t want to be a “possessive girlfriend”, but slammed Wes’ partner for failing to reach out to her during the three months the pair have been training together.

She said she finally met Vanessa at the live show on Sunday, calling the introduction “quick and awkward” and saying it “felt forced”.

“I’ve had no communication with her for the past three months,” she told the publication.

Megan said her seething message about Vanessa had been the result of being “pushed over the edge”, conceding it wasn’t “professional or classy”.

She previously wrote in view of her 1.8 million Instagram followers: “@vanessabauer_skates love that you decide to announce your breakup with your boyfriend on the night of your first performance with my boyfriend!

“You’ve never reached out to me once or invited me to watch you train, it pained you to introduce yourself to me last night you didn’t even look me in the eye LOL hope the tactical breakup got you the headlines you wanted babe,”(sic) she added, tagging Wes in the post on her story, which she deleted several hours later.

Wes and Vanessa scored an impressive 25 points out of 40 for their first routine at the weekend, topping the leaderboard.

Megan was in the audience cheering on her beau when judge Christopher Dean, 60, called them a “beautiful looking couple” on the ice.

Earlier in the evening, Wes told cameras: “It’s really important you have chemistry with your partner but not too much chemistry!

“I’ve got a girlfriend,” he laughed.

After Megan’s Instagram post about Vanessa’s break-up with her boyfriend, he also told his own 1.6 million followers: “Give it a rest with this Dancing On Ice curse b******s as well it’s laughable.”

Elsewhere, Vanessa clarified reports about her split on Sunday, telling her 52,000 Instagram followers it had nothing to do with Dancing On Ice.

“It’s hard enough to deal with a break up privately,” she said. “So upsetting to see papers inventing stories not respecting ones privacy at all. Don’t believe all the b***s**t!”(sic)

Dancing On Ice continues Sunday at 6pm on ITV.
