Man Utd transfer news: Frenkie de Jong agrees terms with PSG, Red Devils to miss out

The 21-year-old midfielder is highly sought after across Europe and PSG are one step closer to agreeing terms, claims Marca.

The French champions are reportedly willing to offer £62million (€70m) to secure the services of the Dutch midfielder.

The deal would see the young player’s wages increase dramatically to £8.9m (€10m) per year.

There are many clubs interested with United, Tottenham and Real Madrid all showing interest in the versatile player.

United have previously sent scouts out to watch De Jong during Holland’s UEFA Nations Leaguematch against France.

Tottenham have already had a £45m bid rejected earlier in the year, but have been in touch with De Jong’s agent, Ali Dursun, to let him know they are prepared to match PSG’s offer.

Real’s president Florentino Perez is willing to stump up £100m for De Jong who has previously attracted interest from Barcelona.

However, the Catalan giants have reportedly cooled their interest in the player after becoming close to completing the transfer of French midfielder Adrien Rabiot from PSG.

There is still some good news for the other clubs interested in De Jong as PSG are concerned about breaching Financial Fair Play rules.

UEFA have reopened an old case against PSG, which found guilty, they could be expelled from European competitions.

De Jong has perviously spoken about being happy to stay at Ajax for this season, after they qualified for the Champions League group stage.

“Maybe someday I’ll join Barcelona, but not this season,” De Jong said at the time.

“I have already played a binding match for Ajax.

“I’m staying at Ajax.

“I think it will be a good year.”

Despite De Jong expressing an interest in Barcelona, with the expected arrival of Rabiot to their ranks, United believe they have a chance of bringing in the young player to Old Trafford.

“The club decided to take a look at him as they have been getting rave reviews from elsewhere,” a United source previously said.

“The scouts were already sure he is the real deal but his display against France only intensified that belief even further.

“He is a top class talent and it is clear to see why so many of the big teams in the Premier League and around Europe want him.”
