Weight loss: How this nurse lost five stone in six months through brand new diet method

How To Lose Weight Well on Channel 4 will tonight look into a very unique method of weight loss. Dr Xand van Tulleken will investigate whether unconscious persuasion could be the future of dieting. Using a weight loss programme called Slimpod, creator Sandra Roycroft-Davis has been using this method to help people slim down. And one of these people was nurse Laura-Beth, 31, who lost five stone in six months on the plan.

Instead of adhering to a strict diet plan or gruelling fitness regime, Laura-Beth followed unconscious persuasion techniques – something which has been used on hundreds of NHS employees across the nation.

The particular programme the nurse followed was Slimpod – a clinically-proven programme which gives people the control to lose weight and keep it off.

Laura-Beth dropped from a size 18 to a size 10 after battling with her weight since she was a teenager and following years of yo-yo dieting and comfort eating.

She said of her weight loss journey: “Several times I’ve lost weight but put it all back on, and more. I managed to get to a size 12 a few years ago but was such an emotional eater that the weight just went back on.

“I could easily eat a full big bar of Cadbury’s Dairy Milk and would snack on sweet stuff non-stop at work to keep me going.”

Laura-Beth said the programme was like “a switch flicking in my head”.

She added: “I no longer reach for sugary food for comfort, my shopping basket is full of healthy food and I take healthy food into work too.”

The nurse has also found an exercise regime which works for her, and which she is committed to.

“I’m feeling great – far more positive, confident and healthier,” Laura-Beth continued.

“I don’t get out of breath any more and don’t worry about not fitting in my uniform. I also exercise three times a week and love it – I’d prefer to be exercising than eating now!

“I know the weight will stay off, because my new eating and exercise habits are here to stay – they’ve become automatic.”

But how does a method like Slimpod work?

The Slimpod programme works by using unique nine-minute voice recordings and online video coaching to retrain the mind on how it thinks about food.

Its description online explains: “Slimpods alter the brain’s reward system so that the pleasure no longer comes from burgers, chocolates or sugar but from making healthier food and lifestyle choices.”

The programme is delivered via an app on phones or tablets.

In Laura-Beth’s before and after photos she is noticeably slimmer, after changing her diet to make healthier choices.
